What is a Plastigauge?
A simplistic yet critical part of measuring clearances between fitted surfaces. Where feeler gauges are not practical, the innovative wax-like string is flattened to where the lubricant should be, indicating the clearance.
Once the surface shell has been prepared with grease and silicon oil, the plastigauge is ready for compression. In order to take an accurate clearance measurement, place the supplied calibration cards next to the flattened gauge. The cards are colour-coded according to the size required.
After completion, simply wipe off with an oiled cloth. As it is soluble in oil, the plastigauge will be removed naturally should any residue be left behind.
