BioBag wins IET Sustainability Innovation Award
The Institute of Engineering and Technologys (IET) Sustainability Innovation Award is the fourth accolade that Farnell has won within a period of eight months. The innovative packaging first collected the Environmental Product/Service of the Year at the UKs Sustainability Live Environment and Energy Awards in April this year. This was followed by the Green Organisations Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice and then the Contribution to Sustainability award, at Electronic Product Design Magazines e-Legacy Awards.
The packaging, developed with packaging partner Antistat, is capable of breaking down in an industrial composter, or dissolving simply in hot water, uses patented technology, exclusive to Farnell, to fully biodegrade without releasing any harmful chemicals into the environment, while offering the same level of component protection as standard static dissipative bags.The IET Innovation Awards celebrate the products, technologies and processes that lead the way in engineering innovation. Spanning 15 categories, the awards were judged by engineering experts, who recognised the depth and breadth of innovative work being carried out across all areas of engineering and technology. The IET Sustainability Innovation Award category is the most all-encompassing of all of the Innovation in Engineering Awards. Farnells biodegradable bags were recognised for the scale of the impact that they can have on present and future generations, and for the integration of the solution into the companys core business. Commenting on the win, Steven Webb, Company Secretary and General Counsel at Premier Farnell, and the person in-charge of the companys overall CSR policies, said: "As the only distributor in the electronics industry to have a comprehensive legislation portal on element14, we certainly lead the way as an innovative business. The four industry-leading awards presented to our innovative packaging over the last eight months is a testament to our sustainable commitments. As a business we have a significant focus on sustainability, we recycle over 80% of our own waste in the UK, and are working to extend that commitment and assist our customers in reducing the waste that they send to landfill.
Antistat announce plans to open new offices in Chicago.
Following a series of successful client wins in the US, Antistat, specialists in ESD Protection, are to open new offices in Chicago to cater for the expanding business overseas.
Antistat will employ a sales team to help grow the business and cater for existing clients in the region. The office will also become the strategic distribution hub for North and Central America, stocking existing core line cards items including a wide range of ESD Packaging within their large warehousing facility.
"The new office enables Antistat to further solidify our position as an international leader in ESD Protection for the electronics industry. The facility will allow Antistat to effectively cater for their growing global market, said John Hensley, CEO at Antistat.
The Chicago location joins the companys many global stocking & sales office including Bulgaria, Brno, Oradea, Italy, Kwidzyn and Shenzhen.
The offices are set to commence trading in Q4 of this financial year.
Ant Group Wins "Business of the Year" Award for 2011
TECHNOLOGY and packaging specialist Ant Group was last night named Business of the Year at the 2011 Anglian Business Awards.
The awards, organised by the East Anglian Daily Times for the 14th time this year and supported for the third year running by Choose Suffolk as main sponsor, were announced at a gala dinner ceremony at Trinity Park, Ipswich, hosted by BBC television and radio presenter John Humphrys.
Ant Group, based on the Claydon Business Park at Great Blakenham, near Ipswich, won the Medium/Large Business of the Year category, sponsored by Trebuchet, and then beat off competition from 12 other category winners to claim the overall title.
The groups companies include Antistat, which specialises in high-end technology-led packaging solutions, electrostatic discharge consumables and clean room supplies, and Cyberpac, which supplies specialist packaging to the creative industry.
Also forming part of the group are Acupaq, a manufacturer of component processing and packaging consumables for the electronics, automotive and biomedical industries, and Cygna, which supplies computer parts, sub-assemblies and complete units to major IT service suppliers.
Speakers at the event included Jonathan Hustler, managing director of media company Archant Anglia, whose titles include the East Anglian Daily Times and Suffolk Business magazine, Terry Hunt, editor of the EADT, and Tim Passmore, chief executive of Choose Suffolk.

Antistat, ESD Specialists, are pleased to announce the appointment of Carly Scott-Woodham as the new Senior Sales Manager for the division.
With over 10 years experience in sales and manufacturing, 5 spent in a fast-paced, manufacturing environment, with major contracts wins for high profile clients such as O2 and BT, and a personal customer turnover of £3.7 million for 2009, Carly is set to bring a fresh approach to the company.
With the companys recent expansion and projected growth, the introduction of the new sales manager will provide valuable support to the sales team to manage and grow existing accounts and develop new client relations within the UK and Europe.
Antistat to extend Sales Team within Europe.
Antistat, specialists in ESD Protection, are set to extend their UK based team with the introduction of a new Pan European sales team.
With the companys recent expansion and projected growth, the new sales team, directed from Global Headquarters in the UK, will provide valuable support to the existing distribution network and help develop new client relations within the region.
Besides the already successful offices in England & Scotland, as well as a strong global distribution network, Antistat is set to continue to accelerate its international business.

Antistat become UK Distributors for the Wera ESD Precision Tools Range.
With a view to extending their current ESD Consumables Range, Antistat have teamed up with Wera Precision Tools to provide an exciting range of ESD Screwdrivers aimed at the electronics industry.
The NEW range features an ergonomic, ESD Safe handle designed to fit snugly in the operators hand. The screwdrivers have a precision zone directly above the blade providing better feel for the rotation angle during fine adjustment.
