Any electronic component is prone to damage due to air or surface moisture and needs to be stored and or shipped to ensure the components are shielded safely from moisture in the environment.
If items are kept as stock in normal atmospheric conditions, the components can absorb moisture over time and suffer irreparable damage. When these components then pass through the reflow system, the rapid and sudden rise in temperature will cause the absorbed water to vaporise, building up immense pressures within the package. The formation of cracks or even the package popping can be the result. This bursting open of the package is designated as the popcorn effect. The maximum storage time in normal atmosphere is given by the MSL (Moisture sensitivity level), which normally is provided as part of the component label or on products technical datasheets.
Moisture Barrier Bags are constructed ultra strong material we manufacture ensures the highest level of puncture resistance making them ideal for a variety of storage environments. These bags are suitable for vacuum sealing ensuring maximum protection from the effects of vapour exposure, humidity and ESD. Our moisture barrier bags are suitable for packing electronic products which are sensitive to moisture and static e.g. PCBs or integrated circuits. The 3.6mil puncture-resistant and moisture-proof packaging has a flexible structure and is suitable for vacuum-sealing.
Desiccants are ideal for protecting packaging and enclosure contents that are susceptible to damage from moisture such as electronic components. Antistat desiccants are available in a variety of types such as Silica Gel Packets, Activated Clay and Molecular Sieve. The synthetic and natural materials have an absorption performance suited to a wide range of product types, environments and humidity levels.
Humidity Indicator Cards (HIC) allow a visual check of the humidity levels inside enclosures or packaged items allowing fast evaluation of the desiccant performance.
